Dolphins Into The Future + Monopoly Child Star Searchers

12.10.2014 19:00 - 21:30 h

Filmverkstaden is proud to present 2 fine musical acts at our studio. It will be an evening with mesmerizing, hypnotic and meditative music.

Dolphins Into The Future (BEL)

Antwerp-based sound artist Lieven Martens (aka Lieven Moana) has been making and releasing music as Dolphins Into The Future since 2007. Many of the earliest releases came in the form of cassettes on small boutique labels such as Pacific City Sound Visions (the label run by Spencer Clark of The Skaters) or Cetacean Nation Cassettes, a subsidiary of Martens’ own Taped Sounds label. With its obsessive focus on the ambient drift and primitive recording style of early new age music, Dolphins Into The Future materialized at the beginning of what was to become a major thread in the post-noise cassette underground. The project’s breakthrough came with the 2009 release of the …On Sea-Faring Isolation LP on Not Not Fun, which further developed the DITF sound toward a uniquely contemporary iteration of exotica, with original field recordings playing an increasingly important role.

Monopoly Child Star Searchers (USA)

Monopoly Child Star Searchers is the creative audio project of Spencer Clark (a.k.a. Charles Berlitz, Black Joker, and Vodka soap, as well as 1/2 of Skaters), whose Romance Audio trilogy under the moniker has sought to explore a metaphysical relationship with an aviary sherpa. The series’ first two full-lengths were released in late 2010, Make Mine, Macaw as a CD-r and Bamboo For Two as an LP on Olde English Spelling Bee. The trilogy finale, entitled The Garnet Toucan, came out in November 2012 on Underwater Peoples.

Clark has worked with an array of artists, including James Ferraro, Mark McGuire, Dolphins Into The Future, and Orphan Fairytale. His sounds as Monopoly Child examine esoteric and spiritual concepts through hypnotic layers of rhythm and melody, and might be exoticist if you find “the outerzone of infinite space” exotic.
