Turbida Lux

01.09.2018 19:00 - 20:30 h

@ The New Space, Kyrkoesplanaden 20, Vaasa

Filmverkstaden is delighted to be able to present Turbida Lux at the new Pop-Up space in Vaasa, in collaboration with Platform.

Turbida Lux is an art collective conformed by Lucila Mayol and Pedro Riva in 2013 in Argentina.
During their stay in the Serlachius Residency in Mänttä, Turbida Lux researched the Serlachius Museums’ photographic and filmic archive selecting moving images of hands and fire. This images were the departure point to make “Nine Minutes Before the Agape”, an art film shot inside the old Bio Säde Cinema of Mäntta.
The idea behind “Nine Minutes Before the Agape”, comes from the historical similarities between church and cinema as a social meeting point. Agape refers to the first christians’ ceremony where they shared food and celebrated love. For nine minutes, the film resembles an open portal where the spectators will meet some kind of Mänttä nebulous soul communion.
The film was entirely shot using 3 reels of Black and White 16mm film. The developing of the 16 mm film was done at Filmverkstaden in Vaasa and the sound is an original piece executed in Mänttä’s church by Marko Koskinen.
Lucila and Pedro will share more about their work and working methods in an artist talk.

The project is funded by the Mobility Funding from Nordic Culture Point in Finland and by Kulturrådet in Norway

Free entrance!
